Job description

Senior Risk Pricing Manager – Motor

We’re a digital insurance provider with ambitious plans to become the best and biggest in the UK market. We’ve made huge investments in our pricing and data capabilities over the past few years, along with nurturing our 4Cs culture.

We provide insurance for over four million customers, but we know there’s even bigger opportunity out there – our Pricing, Data and Analytics community value curiosity, collaboration and constructive challenge.

We are always looking for new ideas and diverse perspectives to question established thinking and drive meaningful change. Great pricing is built on trust, innovation and precision, so our aim is to ensure customers receive a fair and accurate price based on their individual risk, supporting fair outcomes, while delivering sustainable and profitable growth for our company.

Pricing is more than just a number – it’s a strategic capability. At the heart of Hastings is deep risk insight – continually improving how we assess, segment and price risk through data and analytics.

Role Overview

The Senior Risk Pricing Manager is responsible for leading the development, deployment, and governance of risk pricing models and strategies across the motor portfolio. The role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, ensuring pricing decisions are robust, commercially effective, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of risk pricing strategies across car portfolio

  • Drive improvements in pricing sophistication, segmentation, and predictive capability.

  • Own delivery of pricing changes from concept through to deployment, ensuring measurable commercial impact.

Modelling & Analytics

  • Oversee development of advanced pricing models (GLMs, machine learning, telematics where relevant).

  • Ensure models are statistically robust, well-documented, and aligned with business objectives.

  • Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure all pricing activity meets internal governance standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., GIPP compliance).

  • Lead preparation and sign-off for Pre-RAC/RAC submissions and material pricing decisions.

  • Maintain strong controls around model changes, documentation, and auditability.

Stakeholder Management

  • Partner closely with Underwriting, Retail, Finance, and Analytical Engineering teams.

  • Communicate pricing strategy and performance clearly to senior leadership (e.g., ExCo, CPC).

  • Influence cross-functional decisions to ensure alignment between pricing, trading, and underwriting.

Performance Monitoring

  • Track and evaluate pricing performance (loss ratio, conversion, retention, etc.).

  • Identify emerging trends and proactively recommend strategic adjustments.

  • Ensure ongoing optimisation of pricing models and strategies post-deployment.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and develop a team of Pricing Managers, Analysts, and Senior Analysts.

  • Provide coaching, technical guidance, and career development support.

  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in general insurance pricing (preferably UK motor).

  • Deep technical expertise in statistical modelling (e.g., GLMs; exposure to ML desirable).

  • Proven track record of delivering end-to-end pricing initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory and governance requirements (e.g., GIPP).

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence at senior leadership level.

  • Demonstrated leadership and people management experience.
