Qualifications

• Significant practical experience in data journalism or related fields such as quantitative research or data analytics.
• Track record of owning projects from start to publication with cross-functional teams.
• Strong data wrangling and storytelling skills using Python (or R) and Excel.
• Proven data verification judgement and adherence to processes and style guides.
• Understanding of data visualization, UX principles and modern visualization tools.
• Desirable portfolio of trusted data sources; cartography/spatial analysis (QGIS) a bonus.
• Experience mentoring juniors and reviewing methodologies is desirable.
• Comfort presenting on camera and creating short-form video is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Project management for personalised data pages and interactive stories, coordinating designers, developers and writers.
• Develop reusable, verifiable data pipelines and datasets to feed flagship stories, ensuring accuracy and standards.
• Prototype and implement engaging tools, visuals and graphics in collaboration with design and development teams.
• Collaborate across newsroom, liaising with specialists to extend coverage and champion work.
