Job summary

Daily Mail is seeking a Data Journalist to join the Deep Dive team in London. You will hunt data, verify statistics and help build interactive visuals that engage readers.

You’ll work with editors, designers and developers in a fast-paced, AI-assisted environment to produce must-read data-led stories across health, finance, weather, crime and elections. You will contribute to data-driven projects and present findings clearly, drawing on strong Excel skills and Python as needed.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in data journalism or related field (quantitative research, data analytics).
• Strong data wrangling skills in Excel and ideally Python; quick learner.
• Care with numbers: understands percentages, rates, averages; wary of misleading results.
• Knowledge of data visualisation UX principles and modern data viz tools.
• Portfolio of trusted data sources is a bonus.
• Cartography/spatial analysis familiarity is a bonus (QGIS or equivalent).
• Desirable: camera confidence and interest in short-form video.
• Passion for news, organized, reliable, and able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Data hunting: source datasets, file FOIs, and document analyses for reuse.
• Data verification: ensure statistics meet editorial standards.
• Supporting projects: deliver a defined data task end-to-end with documentation.
• Visual storytelling: prototype interactive tools and graphics with the team.
• Collaboration: work with data journalists, designers and developers across projects.
