Job summary

Vitality is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and deliver scalable data solutions, collaborating with stakeholders and data teams across the business. You will build trusted data pipelines, support analytics initiatives and help shape Vitality's data capabilities.

You will work in a hybrid setup with regular office presence in Bournemouth or London, and you will mentor peers while staying current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Systems, Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 3+ years’ experience across BI, data warehousing, data management and ETL.
• Strong experience delivering data solutions within BI warehouses and/or data lake environments across both on-premise and cloud platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies, data ingestion and streaming.
• Confident working with data lakes and data visualisation tools, including semantic modelling.
• Strong understanding of data architecture principles and best practices.
• Passionate about engaging with stakeholders and collaborating across teams to deliver successful outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with our Data Engineering team to deliver reliable, high-quality data that powers impactful data flows and predictive models, confidently contributing ideas and solutions along the way.
• Use a range of languages and tools to design, build and manage robust data pipelines across multiple systems, ensuring data is accessible, trusted and ready to drive decision-making.
• Play an active role in key technical discussions and decisions, helping to drive our outcome-focused SWAT approach and deliver meaningful results.
• Take the initiative to identify new opportunities for data acquisition and uncover ways to generate greater value from existing data assets.
• Collaborate effectively with Data Science, Analytics, Architecture and wider technology teams to design, build, test and maintain scalable, high-performing data environments.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of GDPR principles and confidently raise concerns or challenge decisions where appropriate to ensure compliance and best practice.
• Bring genuine curiosity for emerging technologies, a passion for continuous learning, and a keen interest in understanding and supporting the Vitality business.
• Support, mentor and share knowledge with fellow Data Engineers, helping to create a collaborative culture where everyone can grow and succeed.
