Job summary

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in London seeks a Senior Staff Data Engineer to own the data engineering architecture and technical direction for the AI Accelerator.

You will define how multimodal biomedical datasets are integrated, provisioned and used for model training, evaluation and deployment. This strategic, hands-on role leads architectural standards, engineering practices and data governance, while collaborating with the AI Enablement leadership team to scale the data

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in a STEM subject and equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience at senior staff level within a data engineering function, defining architecture and direction, mentoring engineers.
• Deep expertise in large-scale data engineering, distributed processing, cloud data platforms and data integration at scale.
• Strong understanding of biomedical and healthcare data domains (genomics, transcriptomics, imaging, EHRs, real-world data).
• Experience implementing data governance, metadata management, lineage, provenance and FAIR principles.

Responsibilities

• Set the data engineering strategy, roadmap and technical direction for the AI Accelerator.
• Own the data engineering architecture, including a layered architecture and provisioning patterns.
• Establish data quality controls, testing, CI/CD for data, and dataset versioning.
• Lead complex data engineering challenges, integrating genomics, imaging and clinical datasets.
• Collaborate with governance, ontologies, metadata harmonisation and data foundations.
