Job summary

Ookla is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Engineering team to build tools, libraries, and operations for data scientists and analysts. You will work on big data using the latest technologies and help optimize performance across Redshift, Spark, and related platforms.

You should have a strong programming background, experience with Python, SQL, and distributed data processing, and a passion for accuracy and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong programming concepts with Python, Java or Scala.
• Experience with high-volume distributed data processing in Spark.
• Strong SQL, data modeling and modern data warehouse management.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-volume data processing jobs across platforms (Redshift, Athena, Iceberg, Spark, Airflow).
• Collaborate with data scientists to translate theory into viable products.
• Identify bottlenecks and improve system performance.
• Support data scientists, analysts, and product managers.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers on architecture and best practices.
