Job summary

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a Senior Staff Data Engineer to join the AI Accelerator in London. You will own the data engineering architecture and provide technical direction to build a high-quality data foundation for foundation-model development and research priorities.

This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on engineering, defining standards, solving complex data challenges across genomics, imaging and real-world datasets, and mentoring a growing team in a hybrid, 4-days-office

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in a STEM subject with equivalent experience.
• Extensive senior staff experience in defining architecture and standards, mentoring engineers.
• Deep expertise in large-scale data engineering, distributed processing, and data integration.
• Strong knowledge of biomedical/healthcare data domains and ML data needs.
• Experience implementing data governance, metadata, lineage and FAIR principles.
• Excellent collaboration and ability to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and roadmap for data engineering aligned to AI Accelerator.
• Own data engineering architecture and layered data foundation for model development.
• Establish data quality controls, governance, metadata management, and versioning.
• Lead hands-on data engineering challenges including genomics, imaging, real-world data.
• Partner with Data Excellence and IT on governance and ontologies.
• Coach and mentor data engineers as the team scales; act as escalation point.
