Job summary

Lorien is seeking a hands-on Senior Data Engineer for a 6-month contract in Glasgow or Dundee with hybrid working. Inside IR35 and up to £600 per day, focusing on PostgreSQL optimisation and data engineering.

You will optimise SQL, manage Kafka, and build release pipelines with GitLab, Jenkins and Terraform within an Agile team. Strong PostgreSQL and AWS experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong PostgreSQL experience with query tuning and performance.
• Hands-on AWS experience.
• Experience with Kafka and CI/CD tooling.
• Familiarity with GitLab and Jenkins pipelines.
• Terraform deployment automation experience.

We're recruiting for a leading client that needs a hands-on, Data Engineer. The focus is optimising PostgreSQL databases where the data volumes are modest but heavily skewed.

The role

• Optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions and views in PostgreSQL
• Improve schema design and data modelling for performance
• Manage and troubleshoot Apache Kafka environments, including topics, producers, consumers and message delivery
• Build and maintain automated release pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins and Terraform
• Resolve production issues across the application, database and infrastructure layers
• Work within an Agile/Scrum team

Essential skills

• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including query tuning and performance optimisation
