Job summary

Royal Mail Group in London is seeking a Senior Cyber Engineer to lead the development and optimisation of security technologies and provide senior technical expertise across our security estate. This hybrid role is based in London Farringdon with three days on site per week.

You will work closely with security leaders and operations to ensure effective tool configuration, protection, and actionable security insights for Security Operations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a security engineering role within a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience deploying, maintaining and configuring a broad range of security technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge across SIEM, DLP, firewalls, cloud security, intrusion prevention, threat intelligence and vulnerability scanning.
  • Strong leadership, influencing and supplier management skills with good judgement for risk-based decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; able to explain security risks to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop key security technologies, ensuring Security Operations has reliable access to tools and information.
  • Collaborate with security architects and technology operations teams to improve configurations and performance of security technologies.
  • Lead technical activity to strengthen protection and logging across new and existing technologies.
  • Act as a senior SME for security projects and transition them into BAU operations.
  • Produce KPI and KRI reporting with recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Build relationships across technology teams and guide placement, maintenance and support of security tools.
  • Lead and direct third-party suppliers to meet timescales and SLAs.
  • Coach and develop engineers within the team.

Senior Cyber Engineer

Help protect a large and complex technology estate. You will lead the development and optimisation of key security technologies, provide senior technical expertise and help embed security solutions into day-to-day operations.

About the role

Our Cyber Security Engineering team protects information assets and supports the detection, analysis and response to security events. We are looking for a Senior Cyber Engineer to strengthen the team and provide hands-on technical leadership across our security technology estate.

Working closely with security leaders, architects, technology operations teams and third-party suppliers, you will ensure our security tools are configured effectively, deliver the right level of protection and provide useful information to Security Operations.

What you'll do
  • Maintain and develop key security technologies, ensuring Security Operations has reliable access to the tools and information it needs.
  • Work with security architects and technology operations teams to improve the configuration and performance of supporting security technologies.
  • Lead technical activity to strengthen protection and logging across new and existing technologies.
  • Act as a senior technical subject matter expert for security projects and support their transition into business-as-usual operations.
  • Produce and present relevant KPI and KRI reporting, providing clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across technology teams and provide practical guidance on the placement, maintenance and support of security technologies.
  • Lead and direct third-party suppliers, making sure delivery and support meet agreed timescales and service levels.
  • Coach and develop less experienced engineers and support the effective delivery of a small team.
What you'll bring
  • At least five years of experience in a similar security engineering role within a large, complex and technologically diverse organisation.
  • Strong experience of deploying, maintaining and configuring a broad range of security technologies in a complex environment.
  • In-depth technical knowledge across areas such as SIEM, DLP, firewalls, cloud security centres, intrusion prevention, cyber threat intelligence and vulnerability scanning.
  • Strong leadership, influencing and supplier management skills, with the judgement to make clear, risk-based recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to move between the big picture and the technical detail.
  • Clear written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to explain security risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure, set direction and make timely decisions.
  • Experience of coaching and developing engineers.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant technical or professional security qualifications.
