Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in London is seeking a Senior Craftsperson – Mechanical to support the delivery of temporary site services on the Old Oak Common project. You will work with Project Engineers to keep works safe, efficient and to high quality standards.

You will inspect plant and tools, follow risk assessments, and contribute to continuous improvement while promoting a Right First Time culture. The role requires flexibility for nights/weekends when needed and a collaborative, hands-on approach.

At Balfour Beatty, we're shaping the future of infrastructure. As a Senior Craftsperson - Mechanical, you'll play a key role in delivering temporary mechanical site services on the Old Oak Common project, helping to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical craftsperson who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team and takes pride in delivering quality work in a fast-paced construction environment.

What you’ll be doing

• Supporting the planning and day-to-day delivery of temporary mechanical site services
• Working closely with Project Engineers and Supervisors to ensure works are completed safely and effectively
• Following Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments, Task Briefing Sheets and toolbox talks
• Identifying hazards and proactively implementing appropriate controls
• Assisting in maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance
• Inspecting and maintaining plant, equipment and small tools before use
• Supporting quality assurance activities, including BIM Field 360 inspections
• Monitoring workmanship and promoting a Right First Time culture
• Reporting non-conformances and supporting continuous improvement initiatives
• Reviewing plant and tool requirements and identifying future site needs
• Highlighting opportunities for efficiency improvements and reducing material waste
• Supporting the delivery of Balfour Beatty's sustainability commitments

Who we’re looking for

Essential

• Valid CSCS Card
• NVQ/SVQ Level 2 in Building Services Engineering or equivalent
• Experience of temporary mechanical installations
• Good understanding of current health and safety legislation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable taking ownership of tasks and seeing them through to completion
• Ability to communicate safe systems of work clearly and effectively
• Flexible approach to working hours, including nights and weekends when required
• Understanding of mechanical specifications, inspection and test plans, and construction tolerances
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and performance

Desirable

• Experience delivering high-quality mechanical installations on major projects
• First Aid at Work qualification
• Full UK driving licence
• Experience managing work packages from commencement through to handover
• A desire to develop professionally, including working towards Appointed Person (AP) status
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a solutions-focused approach
