Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a proactive facilities professional to support the Senior Hard Facilities Manager. The role covers HVAC maintenance, minor projects, and compliance across a nationwide estate, with regular travel and site work.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Facilities Management across multiple sites.
  • City & Guilds F-Gas Cat 1 is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, mechanical systems and controls.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations is desirable.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and prioritising work.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned and reactive HVAC maintenance across a nationwide estate with minimal supervision.
  • Undertake AC installations from planning through certification.
  • Coordinate, review and complete RAMS to ensure safe systems of work.
  • Prioritise work, diagnose faults and resolve complex HVAC issues.
  • Supervise external subcontractors and induct specialists.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and promote a strong health & safety culture.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to build strong relationships.
  • Maintain essential spares, materials and equipment for service delivery.
  • Carry out PAT testing across the estate when required.

About the role

In this role, you will support the Senior Hard Facilities Manager in the independent delivery, coordination and assurance of HVAC and air conditioning hard services maintenance and minor project works across the Balfour Beatty UK estate.


The role operates with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgement, ensuring HVAC systems are safe, compliant and fully operational. The postholder will contribute directly to statutory compliance, health & safety governance, service performance and contractor oversight across multiple sites nationwide. Regular travel and periods working away from home will be required.


What you'll be doing

You will be accountable for:



  • Delivering planned and reactive HVAC maintenance activities across a nationwide estate with minimal day-to-day supervision

  • Undertake AC installations, from planning, ordering parts, liaising with site, carrying out the works and completing all relevant certification

  • Managing the issue, coordination and completion of PPM and compliance activities, ensuring systems remain statutory compliant and operational

  • Exercising professional judgement to prioritise work, diagnose faults and resolve complex HVAC issues

  • Acting as an Authorised Person for mechanical and/or electrical systems relevant to the role, where appointed

  • Supervision of external sub-contractors

  • Preparing, reviewing and implementing RAMS and ensuring safe systems of work are consistently applied

  • Coordinating, supervising and inducting specialist subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly and to required standards

  • Delivering toolbox talks and supporting a strong health & safety culture across sites

  • Liaising effectively with clients, internal stakeholders and service partners, building strong working relationships

  • Maintaining oversight of essential spares, materials and equipment to support effective service delivery

  • Completing documentation and reports in line with site-specific O&M manuals, SLA requirements and agreed procedures

  • Undertaking multi-skilled maintenance activities where required to support operational resilience

  • Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) across the estate when required


Who we're looking for


  • Proven experience working within the Facilities Management environment, ideally across multiple sites

  • City & Guilds F-Gas Qualification - Category 1 (essential)

  • Strong all-round knowledge of HVAC, mechanical systems and controls

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (desirable)

  • Strong background in servicing, maintenance and fault-finding of HVAC systems

  • Sound working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation (SSSTS / SMSTS desirable)

  • Confident working independently, managing workload and making operational decisions

  • Experience coordinating supply chain and subcontractor activities

  • IT-literate, with the ability to complete electronic maintenance and compliance records

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Portable Appliance Testing experience

  • Basic plumbing/joinery/building fabric skills
