Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Senior Counsel in Employment Law to advise across its global footprint, with a primary focus on Europe. The role requires deep European employment law expertise and the ability to build trust with HR and business partners while collaborating with the Law Department.

Based in the UK, you will work flexibly from home with regular office work in Cambridge or Uxbridge, joining a dynamic Employment Law Team within Amgen’s Law Organization.

Qualifications

• Qualified to practice in UK and/or Ireland (bar or Law Society).
• Extensive employment law experience, including EU countries.
• Experience with multinational corporations or leading law firms.
• Proven ability to advise HR and business leaders.

Responsibilities

• Advise HR and business leaders on complex employment matters across Europe, with focus on cross-border issues.
• Manage employment litigation and disputes, including oversight of outside counsel.
• Provide guidance on employee relations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
• Collaborate with regional HR and Staff Relations to mitigate employment-related risks in cross-country initiatives.
• Coordinate with local counsel on country-specific labor and employment law issues.
• Deliver practical, business-focused legal solutions and act as escalation point for complex, cross-border matters.

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role the Senior Counsel in Amgen’s Employment Law Group is responsible for advising on employment issues across Amgen’s global footprint, with a focus on Europe.

We are seeking an experienced employment lawyer to advise on employment, and labor law matters across the ELMAC region (Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Canada), with a primary focus in Europe. This role will provide strategic and practical legal counsel to Human Resources, business leaders, and the Legal Department on a broad range of employment-related issues, including litigation.

The successful candidate will have deep expertise in European employment law, excellent writing, and oral communication skills, be able to establish relationships of trust with HR and business partners and be able to collaborate with colleagues in the Law Department.

Responsibilities:

• Advise HR and business leaders on significant and complex employment law matters across multiple European jurisdictions, with a primary focus on cross-border matters and employment issues supported by the Staff Relations team.
• Manage employment litigation, administrative claims, and disputes, including oversight of outside counsel.
• Provide legal guidance on employee relations issues, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
• Partner with regional HR and Staff Relations team to identify and mitigate employment-related legal risks in cross country initiatives while supporting business objectives.
• Coordinate with local counsel on country-specific labor and employment law issues throughout Europe as needed.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the Law Department and other functions to deliver practical, business-focused legal solutions and act as a subject‑matter expert and escalation point for complex, sensitive, novel or cross-border employment law matters.
