Job description

We’re seeking a dynamic and talented Senior Contracts Manager to join our UK subsidiary (Tipalti Europe Ltd.). As an integral part of the Tipalti Legal team, this position will have primary responsibility for serving Tipalti’s European sales and procurement functions through commercial contracting across the region. As the department’s first non-lawyer legal professional in the region, this position will also support legal operations initiatives and projects relevant to the franchise’s growth within Europe.

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven contracts professional to join Tipalti’s Legal team of 15 (based in Canada, Europe and the U.S.), who are passionate about all things fintech and helping Tipalti deliver great financial automation tools to a growing client base. This role will be collaborative across all regions, but primarily focused on European business activity.

This is a hybrid in-office role in Tipalti’s London location (3 days in, 2 days from home), and is a great opportunity to develop and grow the in-house commercial transactions practice in that office, within the payments industry, and beyond.

Tipalti is one of the world’s fastest-growing fintech companies. We free finance professionals to lead by modernizing the entire payables operation. We are a well-funded, late-stage start-up backed by high-profile investors. Our 2021 Series F funding round raised $270 million, valuing us at over $8.3 billion. With total funding of just over $550 million, and with more than 5000 global customers, Tipalti is one of the most valuable private fintech companies in the world.

At Tipalti, we pride ourselves on our collaborative culture, the quality of our product and the capabilities of our people. Tipaltians are passionate about the work they do, and keen to get the job done. Tipalti offers competitive benefits, a flexible workplace, career coaching, and an environment where diverse individuals can thrive and make an impact. Our culture ensures everyone checks their egos at the door and stands ready to reach for success together.

Founded in Israel in 2010, Tipalti is a global business headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area (Foster City) with offices in Tel Aviv, Plano, Toronto, Vancouver, London, Amsterdam and Tbilisi.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Drafting and negotiating agreements ranging from financial services, professional services, software licenses, software as a service, and supplier agreements.
  • Serve as the primary commercial contracting resource and subject matter expert for our growing internal European sales and procurement organisations, acting as a key liaison for contract negotiations and contract management, and maintaining a high value for client service in a high-touch, fast-paced, environment.
  • Develop strategies for contract management and negotiation, ensuring effective cross-border collaboration and alignment throughout the company, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance business outcomes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in contract drafting, review, and management to increase efficiency and compliance.
  • Implement global operational initiatives from the Legal Operations Manager in Canada to embed new and existing intake and functional processes within the Europe region.
  • Partner with the global Commercial Legal team to develop and maintain the function’s legal precedents, playbooks, and other resources from a UK and European perspective.
  • Develop and retain strong legal, regulatory, and compliance knowledge by interacting with and seeking guidance from Senior Legal Counsel(s) in the US, Canada, and the UK.
  • Support Tipalti’s current UK counsel in connection with discrete matters and projects that may arise within the Europe region.
  • Remain well-versed in technology and licensing (or develop a meaningful understanding of the same), with a critical eye towards business risk and contractual issues.

About you

  • BA/BSc or other degree equivalent required. LLB, paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience would be preferred.
  • 8+ years of related legal experience, preferably in a corporate contracting or equivalent role with strong cross-functional influence and collaboration.
  • Ability to solve significant, unique, and often intangible issues requiring a high level of research, evaluation, problem solving, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Exceptional drafting and computer skills, with attention to detail and an ability to generate ‘self-drafted’ documents and navigate software tools typical of a global legal department.
  • Outstanding in-person and remote communication skills, a solid sense of humour, and the ability to work both in teams and independently to forge effective working partnerships.
  • Diplomatic negotiation style that balances legal protection with business objectives.
  • Experience in financial services is not strictly necessary though willingness and energy to learn EU / UK financial regulatory concepts would be significant.
  • Confident self-starter with strong interpersonal and organisational skills, and a demonstrated ability to effectively and proactively provide sound customer service, solve problems and exercise good business judgment.
  • Experience in quarterly SaaS sales cycles is a plus.
  • Fluency in other languages other than English – particularly Dutch, French, German or Spanish – would be a plus.

Our benefits package includes:

  • Eligibility to receive a stock option grant. Stock options, which vest over time, provide the opportunity for all employees to purchase vested stock at pre-IPO rates and become shareholders in Tipalti’s succes
  • Fresh fruit, snacks & drinks
  • Free lunch on office days
  • Regular company-wide social events
  • Multiple ERG groups celebrating our diversity and creating an inclusive culture
  • Pension
  • 25 days holiday
