NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles.

The Role

NSG Consultancy Services is well established, with a strong reputation for delivering high quality technical and strategic work to the UK nuclear industry in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration. We work with all of the Operating Companies in the NDA Estate, have a long-standing presence at AWE, and established relationships with a broad range of other UK nuclear businesses.

Working within Consultancy Services, the role of Senior Consultant provides senior level consultancy to clients on a wide range of projects, supports the business in the winning of new work, cultivates client relationships to develop new opportunities, and contributes to the successful management of the wider Consultancy team. Ideal candidates will have at least 7 years demonstrable experience in the nuclear industry, with evidence of delivering and managing high quality technical and strategic work to a range of client organisations, as well as managing the preparation of competitive tender responses.

Key Objectives

Business

  • Promote the image and reputation of NSG and the Consultancy Services division.
  • Identify, cultivate, and support the development of client business opportunities for the Consultancy Services Division and for the wider company.
  • Manage and deliver bids in response to client enquiries for Consultancy Services work including preparing proposals and planning technical approaches, resources, schedules and pricing.
  • Manage the delivery of external Consultancy projects, requiring co-ordination of NSG resources within and beyond Consultancy Services ensuring delivery of tasks/projects to the required quality, timescales and costs.
  • Provide technical review and oversight of projects and bids in area(s) of expertise, to ensure alignment with client scope.
  • May be responsible for line managing a team including accountability for the utilisation of the team members and any sub-contractors.
  • Monitor feedback from customers and from NSG managers and action, as necessary.
  • Accountable to task or project manager for timescales and costs of agreed scope of work.
  • Accountable to line manager for utilisation, including notifying when at risk of being over- or under-utilised.
  • Support the preparation of bids within Consultancy and NSG as a whole.
  • Actively support the operational management of Consultancy Services.

Technical

  • Provide technical specialist/expertise in a number of areas associated with decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation.
  • Maintain competence in a range of technical areas relating to decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation.
  • Produce high quality documents to support decommissioning and waste management projects e.g. Best Available Technique, Letter of Compliance submissions, waste characterisation documents, experimental and technology reports.
  • Deliver studies (potentially including laboratory trials) to support radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration.
  • Author and review procedural/guidance documents (e.g. work instructions, risk assessments).
  • Provide senior level consultancy support to projects in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration.
  • Peer review and approval of deliverables within Consultancy and NSG Projects providing expert support and advice.
  • Maintain senior level expertise and currency in industry best practice.
  • Liaise with Head of Consultancy on the direction and needs of your team within NSG's overall remit.
  • Liaise with NSG Operating Divisions and clients; developing and maintaining strong working relationships which will in turn promote NSG’s business ethos.
  • Active contributor and supporter of meetings and workshops in areas of expertise, both internal and external including provision of technical secretariat.
  • Liaise with the NSG Operating Divisions in all areas of competency to ensure effective delivery.
  • Author papers and deliver to internal and external committees/meetings etc.
  • Liaise with all staff within your line management.

Package

Overtime – 37.5-60hours per week – Time and half
