Job summary

NSG Environmental Ltd is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to manage on-site commissioning for the assigned site, ensuring delivery in line with safety, quality, environmental and contractual standards.

The role requires DV clearance and willingness to travel nationwide. You will lead project engineers, work with clients and suppliers, and develop test documentation and control plans for FAT/SAT activities.

Qualifications

  • Well organised with ability to work to timescales and attention to detail (Essential)
  • Experience in commissioning on a nuclear licensed site (Essential)
  • Ability to develop test documentation and control plans (Essential)

Responsibilities

  • Own the commissioning activities for the assigned site, ensuring safety, quality, environment and contract compliance.
  • Attend FATs and SATs, ensuring testing aligns with the plan and documents.
  • Lead and coordinate project engineers/technicians for StW, SAT and commissioning activities.
  • Liaise with client site commissioning manager and supply chain.
  • Develop and review test documentation and installation records.

Job description

NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles.

The Role

To have responsibility for the commissioning activities associated with the delivery of the project for the assigned site, ensuring the delivery of the project in full compliance with the pre-determined standards of safety, quality, environmental and security and the conditions of contract.

  • Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers to support the generation and review of:

  • Setting to Work documents
  • Site Acceptance Testing documents

Project Delivery Services
  • Attendance at FATs ensuring that the supplier carries out the testing in accordance with the agreed test plan.
  • Ensuring that the supplier’s equipment is installed as per the installation documentation and inspection has been undertaken to allow acceptance to proceed to Setting to Work.
  • Witnessing Setting to Work and ensuring that the documented procedure is being followed developed and signed off.
  • Liaise with the Client site commissioning manager
  • Management of project engineers and technicians in support of StW, SAT and inactive commissioning activities
  • Reporting any plant and equipment issues through to the NSG site Project Manager and support the rectification process in a timely manner.
  • Ensure and promote effective communication and working between disciplines to support the overall delivery of the project objectives.

  • Ensure personal, professional, technical, and engineering competency through continuing professional development
  • Understand the technical aspects of a project and develop design and engineering solutions with our in-house specialists or supply chain support as necessary.
  • Consolidation and collation of design and engineering documentation for internal approvals and presentation to the client as necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Engineering degree - Desirable
  • Higher National Certificate in Engineering- Desirable
  • Membership of appropriate technical / professional body- Desirable
  • IOSH Managing Safely or Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided if required
Experience & Knowledge
  • Well organised with the ability to work to timescales and demonstrate attention to detail - Essential
  • Routine recording and reporting of information both verbal and numerical- Essential
  • Commissioning experience on a nuclear licenced site- Essential
  • Supplier witness testing- Essential
  • Experience of developing test documentation- Essential
  • General knowledge of mechanical and process engineering disciplines- Desirable
  • Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information- Desirable
  • Familiar with integrated management system operating procedures and requirements etc- Desirable
Skills & Abilities
  • Competent user of MS Office - Essential
  • Able to organise and prioritise own work - Essential
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of colleagues at all levels and with external stakeholders and contractors - Desirable
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 & 45001 - Desirable
Package
  • Overtime – 37.5-60hours per week – Time and half
  • Overtime – 60+ hours per week or Sundays – Double time
  • Life Assurance 3x Salary
  • Subsistence allowance paid for working away (50+ miles away from home location) - £200pw lodge (£50pd, 4 days max) + £25pd Food
  • Pension – Company contributes 5% Individual contributes 4%
