Job summary

Bevan Brittan LLP is seeking a Senior Associate to join its nationally recognised construction team. You will focus on non-contentious, transactional construction projects and work on high-value instructions with senior oversight to strengthen client relationships.

Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating construction documents (JCT/NEC), advising on risk allocation, and coordinating transactions with clients, funders and stakeholders. A proactive, client-focused approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in transactional construction work and drafting standard form contracts (JCT/NEC).
• Familiarity with collateral warranties and security documents (performance bonds, parent company guarantees).
• Pragmatic, commercial approach to risk with clear, solutions-focused advice.
• Strong drafting skills and attention to detail with client engagement.
• Ability to manage own workload and know when to seek support.
• Team-oriented mindset with collaborative working style.
• Strong communication and ability to build lasting client relationships.
• Genuine interest in construction sector and regional clients (developers, contractors, public bodies).
• Willingness to engage in business development and local networking when appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Drafting, negotiating and advising on a broad range of construction and project documents (including JCT/NEC), professional appointments, collateral warranties, and security documents such as performance bonds and parent company guarantees, with a focus on risk allocation and bespoke solutions.
• Advising clients on risk allocation and developing bespoke contractual solutions reflecting project-specific requirements.
• Managing the legal aspects of transactions from initial instruction through to completion, coordinating with clients, external in-house counsel, funders and project stakeholders.
• Keeping up to date with developments in construction law and contributing to know-how, training and client briefings.
