Job summary

ERM is seeking an experienced Principal Consultant – Onshore Consents Manager to lead post-consent environmental compliance for major infrastructure projects in the UK. You will advise clients, manage consent requirements, commitments, and regulatory obligations across sectors including electricity, renewables, hydrogen, solar, and wind.

As a senior team member, you will oversee delivery, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, maintain registers, prepare submissions, and liaise with regulators.

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental consent management and post-consent delivery on major infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of UK planning and consenting regimes (DCOs, Town and Country Planning Act, Electricity Act S36).
• Ability to prepare compliance reports, submissions and regulatory correspondence.

Responsibilities

• Lead Environmental Consents Manager and Post-Consent Compliance Manager roles from consent through construction.
• Develop and implement consent management and compliance strategies.
• Maintain comprehensive consents, commitments, and obligations registers.
• Provide oversight of consent compliance processes across project teams.
• Coordinate submissions for discharge of requirements and planning conditions.
• Act as primary point of contact for consent and compliance queries.
• Liaise with regulators (Planning Inspectorate, Local Planning Authorities, Environment Agency, etc.).
• Support and lead environmental compliance audits and regulatory reviews.
• Prepare reports on compliance status and emerging risks for clients and leadership.
• Collaborate with engineering, planning, legal, and construction teams to integrate consent requirements.
• Support business development through proposals and client engagement.
• Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative team culture.
