Job summary

The London Borough of Hounslow is hiring a Senior Communications Officer to join our fast-paced media team, managing the press office and delivering world-class campaigns. You will lead campaigning approaches, shaping our storytelling to reflect council priorities and impact on local communities.

You will work with senior stakeholders across the organisation, drive strategic campaigns, and deliver clear, consistent communications that engage residents and partners alike.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in media relations and communications, with a strong track record in managing campaigns, media engagement, and content creation.
• Confident and talented writer with experience working in fast-paced environments.
• Able to spot factual inaccuracies in media stories and build relationships with journalists, senior stakeholders and Councillors.
• Organised, proactive and capable of leading on complex media enquiries with attention to detail.

About The Role

We are recruiting for an exceptional Senior Communications Officer to work in our fast-paced media team - helping to manage our busy press office while delivering world-class campaigns.

You will be at the forefront of driving a campaigning approach to media and communications, using the full breadth of earned media to tell the story of Council's priorities and our impact on local communities.

About The Team You'll Be Working In

You will be part of a collaborative, high-performing team responsible for delivering clear, consistent, and impactful communications that support the Council's priorities. You will be expected to take the lead with senior internal stakeholders and teams across the organisation while delivering strategic campaigns that deliver on the Council's corporate objectives.

About You

You'll bring significant experience in media relations and communications, with a strong track record in managing campaigns, media engagement, and content creation.

You'll need to be a confident and talented writer and at ease working in a fast-paced environment. You'll also need to show a flair for spotting when there are factual inaccuracies in media stories and be able to build strong relationships with key partners, including journalists, senior internal stakeholders and Councillors.

You will need to be organised, proactive, and confident in taking the lead when it comes to handling complex media enquiries. Strong attention to detail and strong communication skills are integral to this role.

You will also need to have experience leading and delivering campaigns that have clearly defined objectives. Experience in local government is useful for this role but not essential.
