Job summary

London Borough of Hounslow is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer to manage the council’s busy press office and deliver world-class campaigns.

You will lead strategic media engagement, craft clear messaging, and build strong relationships with journalists and internal stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

About The Role

We are recruiting for an exceptional Senior Communications Officer to work in our fast-paced media team – helping to manage our busy press office while delivering world-class campaigns.

You will be at the forefront of driving a campaigning approach to media and communications, using the full breadth of earned media to tell the story of Council’s priorities and our impact on local communities.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

You will be part of a collaborative, high-performing team responsible for delivering clear, consistent, and impactful communications that support the Council’s priorities. You will be expected to take the lead with senior internal stakeholders and teams across the organisation while delivering strategic campaigns that deliver on the Council’s corporate objectives.

About You

You’ll bring significant experience in media relations and communications, with a strong track record in managing campaigns, media engagement, and content creation.

You’ll need to be a confident and talented writer and at ease working in a fast-paced environment. You’ll also need to show a flair for spotting when there are factual inaccuracies in media stories and be able to build strong relationships with key partners, including journalists, senior internal stakeholders and Councillors.

You will need to be organised, proactive, and confident in taking the lead when it comes to handling complex media enquiries. Strong attention to detail and strong communication skills are integral to this role.

You will also need to have experience leading and delivering campaigns that have clearly defined objectives. Experience in local government is useful for this role but not essential.
