Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking a Commissioning Officer to join the Personalised Commissioning team to broker services meeting individuals' care and support needs.

You will work across commissioning, social care and partner organisations to develop person-centred solutions, support service improvement and engage stakeholders to shape health and care services.

There is a hybrid working pattern with office in Yate two days a week; interviews likely in November 2026.

Qualifications

• Essential experience in commissioning social care or similar services.
• Ability to research, share knowledge and develop processes.
• Collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging conversations.
• Clear, logical and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Well organised with excellent time management and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Knowledge of direct payments would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop the Personalised Commissioning team's approach to direct payments; research, develop and embed new processes and ways of working.
• Support a range of projects and meetings, aiding service development and driving improvements.
• Line manage a small team of Assistant Commissioning Officers; provide supervision and oversight of complex cases.
• Support day-to-day service activities and act as escalation point for complex duty-related queries.
• Build strong relationships with colleagues, care providers, individuals and families to support commissioning and outcomes.
• Help manage the flow of work into the team and assist with allocation of cases.
