Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Birmingham, UK is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to oversee and lead commissioning activities across multiple projects, ensuring safety, quality and delivery on schedule.

You will provide operational leadership to field teams, drive commissioning strategy, manage reports, liaise with clients and authorities, and maintain stringent HSQE compliance while developing staff capability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in engineering or related technical field.
• Full UK driving licence.
• SSE CAT1, CAT2 & CAT3 authorisations.
• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• SMSTS or IOSH or equivalent.
• Varied knowledge of substation equipment from various OEMs.
• Must have the right interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with the site team.
• Minimum of 5 years as a commissioning engineer.
• Strong LV & HV knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Oversee commissioning on multiple projects and deliverables.
• Lead development of commissioning strategy and project reviews.
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and safety policies.
• Produce reports and provide timely information to stakeholders.
• Coach and develop sub‑contractors to meet production levels.
• Maintain QA/QC adherence and manage site documentation.
