Role Summary:
This is a key role in the UK Legal department, working alongside business stakeholders and clients on a range of commercial agreements in a leading employee benefits and pensions service provider.
Main Responsibilities:
• Supporting the legal function across a wide range of commercial legal agreements, complex outsourced services agreements and NDAs.
• Negotiating new pension services contracts with clients and extending, renegotiating existing client contracts
• Development of new agreements with existing clients for projects connected with their pension schemes
• Negotiation and re-negotiation of terms, alongside the UK Head of Legal and/or business stakeholders as relevant
• Support the Group Business Development activities by advising on contractual risks
• Collaborate with other departments (Finance, People, Operations, Risk & Compliance) to deliver pragmatic legal solutions that support business goals
• Contribute to the refinement of master services agreement templates
• Instruction of external counsel as needed
Required Experience and Technical Knowledge:
• A qualified solicitor (England and Wales) or similar qualification
• Sound contract law knowledge ideally gained from training in a City or major regional firm
• In-house experience is preferred but not essential for this role
• Experience drafting complex outsourced services agreements and associated documentation (e.g. engagement letters, NDAs, comfort letters)
• Ability to apply agreed principles around limitations of liability to contracts
• Foundation knowledge of GDPR issues and when to refer matters to experts
Required Skills and Behaviours:
• A positive approach, and able to work under pressure
• Able to balance competing demands on time and prioritise effectively
• Desire to learn, particularly around specialist pension topics
• Diplomatic approach to negotiations and challenging conversations, but able to be robust as needed
• Organised with strong attention to detail
