About the Role

Our client, a highly respected architectural practice based in Randburg, Gauteng, is seeking a seasoned Senior Commercial Architect to lead the design and development of significant commercial projects. This role involves overseeing the entire architectural process, from client engagement and conceptual design through to detailed documentation and construction oversight. You will be instrumental in delivering innovative and functional commercial spaces, including office buildings, retail centers, and mixed‑use developments within Randburg, Gauteng, and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership qualities, a deep understanding of commercial architecture, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and client relationships. This position is office‑based in Randburg, Gauteng, with a hybrid work arrangement offering flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design process for commercial projects, ensuring alignment with client briefs and project goals.
• Develop innovative and practical design solutions for office buildings, retail spaces, and mixed‑use developments.
• Produce high-quality architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Coordinate effectively with engineers, consultants, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, zoning regulations, and accessibility standards.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
• Conduct site visits and construction administration to ensure adherence to design intent.
• Mentor and guide junior architects and designers, fostering their professional development.
• Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to build strong relationships and facilitate approvals.
• Stay abreast of current trends and technologies in commercial architecture and construction.

Requirements

• Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
• A minimum of 9 years of post‑graduate experience, with a significant focus on commercial architecture.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex commercial projects from concept to completion.
• Expert proficiency in architectural design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and ArchiCAD.
• Strong understanding of commercial building systems, materials, and construction methodologies.
• In‑depth knowledge of South African building codes, planning regulations, and environmental standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and teams concurrently within a hybrid work setting.
• Professional registration with SACAP is required.
• Experience within the Randburg, Gauteng region or similar metropolitan contexts is highly valued.
