Job summary

IBM Software is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and operate scalable backend services in a cloud-native environment. You will contribute to multi-tenant, multi-cloud compute substrates powering Confluent Cloud and related platforms, ensuring high availability and reliability.

You will focus on end-to-end technical delivery, performance optimization, and operational excellence while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet customer needs and business goals.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience designing, building, scaling and supporting backend systems in production with good software engineering practices.
• Strong programming and algorithmic skills in Java, Go, C/C++, Python, etc.
• Experience configuring and deploying distributed systems and microservices using modern tools like Kubernetes and Helm.
• Strong focus on project delivery and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build mission-critical backend services that deliver value to our customers.
• Troubleshoot and debug technical issues in a deep, complex stack.
• Ensure operational readiness and meet availability/performance SLAs.
• Act as a strategic engineer for process and operational improvements.
