Checkout.com is hiring a Senior Cloud Engineer to own cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure, with a software engineering mindset and Terraform expertise. The role emphasizes building scalable, secure platforms, strong networking, and automation.

You will shape architecture, mentor peers, and drive best practices in a regulated payments environment. The role is hybrid with three days in the London-area office.

Qualifications

• Deep AWS expertise with multi-account, IAM, KMS, and enterprise-scale production infrastructure.
• Azure experience with landing zones, VNets, Entra ID, and governance model.
• Software engineering mindset: infrastructure as code, Terraform modules, secure state, CI/CD workflows.
• Strong cloud networking in a complex estate: VPC/VNet, hub-and-spoke, PrivateLink, DNS, routing.
• Kubernetes experience: cluster lifecycle, production workloads on EKS/AKS.
• Security/compliance awareness, change control, least privilege, auditability; PCI DSS familiarity.
• Observability and data-driven operations: instrumentation and metrics.
• Leadership and mentoring: guiding peers and driving code reviews.
• Pragmatic problem solving and incident resolution leadership.
• 5+ years in cloud engineering with significant AWS depth; CS degree useful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Lead large-scale platform projects end to end from architecture to production via Terraform.
• Design platform primitives to simplify product engineering and ensure secure, scalable usage.
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers and architects to refine requirements and ADRs.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert for team-owned services with high availability for global payments.
• Create and promote best practices and standards across the group.
• Navigate dependencies to optimize delivery speed and business outcomes.
• Model Checkout Operating Principles in day-to-day work and culture.
• Explore AI-driven automation to boost infrastructure efficiency.
