Senior Cloud Engineer

Senior Cloud Platform Engineer
Location - Leeds or Dublin
Hybrid - 2 days per week

Flutter Technology is recruiting a Senior Cloud Engineer to lead the implementation, automation, and operation of our AWS-based Internal Developer Platform. This platform supports Flutter's global services, enhancing delivery speed, reliability, and developer experience.

In this senior role, you will shape Flutter's cloud infrastructure, collaborate across brands to modernize services, set technical standards, and promote best practices. Your expertise will guide the evaluation and implementation of AWS services, platform tooling (including IaC, CI/CD, Kubernetes, observability), and components aligned with strategic goals.

You will translate requirements into technical solutions, advocate for cloud-native practices, and implement risk mitigation strategies. Your experience in enterprise cloud transformations will underpin your technical leadership, mentorship, strategic contribution, and management of complex dependencies.

About Division/Function

Flutter comprises two divisions (Fanduel and International) and Flutter Functions, including COO, Finance & Legal. Flutter Functions collaborates across divisions to deliver the Flutter Edge, a unique competitive advantage that powers our brands through Product, Tech, Expertise, and Scale.

What you'll do

• Build and operate a secure, high-performance AWS Cloud Platform.
• Manage and evolve our Kubernetes platform for scalability and security.
• Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Crossplane, Terraform, CDK) and configuration management, fostering a self-service developer environment.
• Maintain standard processes for source code and artifact management, ensuring security and consistency.
• Conduct technical design reviews, support cloud service adoption, and uphold high code quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the platform's technical roadmap.
• Lead incident troubleshooting and ensure comprehensive documentation.
• Evaluate and integrate new tools within Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD, and observability ecosystems.
• Ensure security and compliance throughout platform design and operations.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors and partners.
• On-call duties may be introduced in the future.

How you'll do it

• Extensive experience in building and scaling AWS cloud platforms.
• Expertise in Kubernetes (preferably EKS), ecosystem tooling, and IaC (Crossplane, Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation).
• Proficiency with GitOps workflows (e.g., ArgoCD), CI/CD pipelines, scripting (Python, Go, Bash), and Linux environments.
• Deep understanding of cloud security, technical solution design, and incident management.
• Leadership in technical initiatives, platform API development, and managing deployment assets.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Experience with large-scale migrations to AWS and broader software engineering principles.
• Relevant AWS and Kubernetes certifications are desirable.
