Job summary

Robinhood is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Exchange Platform team in London. You will help build the next generation infrastructure for low-latency services in the cloud and drive modernization initiatives across the stack.

You will operate in a hybrid London office, with on-call rotations to support business needs, and collaborate across teams to ensure scalable, reliable services that power Robinhood's global ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 4–5+ years of cloud engineering experience with containerization and modernizing legacy architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of backend disciplines and AWS services (ECS, EC2, Aurora, DynamoDB).
• Proven ability to manage entire projects and coordinate across teams.
• Operational pragmatism with a drive to automate and reduce toil.
• Strong communication to influence stakeholders and guide colleagues.
• Experience with on-call rotations or 24/7 support responsibilities.

The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer integrated into the Exchange Platform team, you will be a key driver of our modernization strategy. You will be an essential part of building the new generation infrastructure for low-latency services in the cloud, adopting cutting-edge technologies to drive our high-velocity ecosystem.

This role is based in our London office(s), with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What You'll Do

• Build Next-Gen Infrastructure: Architect and implement high-availability, low-latency cloud infrastructure that ensures performance and portability across our ecosystem.
• Modernize and Scale: Lead the transition of our services to modern, containerized environments, optimizing deployment and scaling workflows.
• Robinhood Ecosystem Integration: Manage and execute high-priority integration projects that align Bitstamp's backend with Robinhood's global infrastructure.
• Evolve the Stack: Identify and implement backend improvements that enhance platform performance and reduce operational toil through intelligent automation.
• End-to-End Ownership: Take full responsibility for complex projects from design to deployment, working independently to improve system effectiveness.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with teams across the organization to interpret complex technical requirements and influence processes that enhance our overall engineering velocity.
• Maintain Platform Integrity: Participate in the on-call rotation, applying your deep knowledge of the system to solve difficult problems and ensure 24/7 reliability.

What We Are Looking For

• Applied Expertise: 4-5+ years of relevant experience in cloud engineering, with a strong background in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and modernizing legacy architectures.
• Technical Depth: Advanced knowledge of backend disciplines and practical experience with AWS services (ECS, EC2, Aurora, DynamoDB).
• Proven Autonomy: An experienced contributor who has managed entire projects or processes, coordinating across different job areas to solve difficult, multi-faceted problems.
• Operational Pragmatism: Someone who thrives on the challenge of taking a stable system and "paving the road" toward automation while balancing necessary day-to-day operational tasks.
• Collaboration & Influence: Strong communication skills to guide and coach other employees, and the ability to influence stakeholders outside of your immediate department to reach technical agreements.
• Project Mastery: Practical knowledge of project management and the ability to manage complex administrative and technical logistics within a fast-moving organization.
