Job summary

Bupa UK is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive DevOps and data engineering across Group Products. You will design, build, and govern analytics-enabled solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), balancing security, governance and performance while guiding engineering teams.

As technical authority, you’ll shape architecture and strategy, stay hands-on with complex design problems, and champion modern practices, while benefiting from a hybrid work model and extensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, implementing, and operating cloud-based technology products, ideally within GCP or a comparable cloud platform.
• Strong expertise in automation, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and modern engineering practices.
• Experience with secure data integration, including APIs, databases, and data pipelines, alongside authentication and access technologies such as OAuth and OIDC.
• Proven ability to deliver complex enterprise-scale technology solutions across multinational organisations.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide DevOps and Data engineering leadership for the Products, ensuring high standards of build, testing, architecture, and delivery.
• Design secure, scalable cloud analytics solutions and drive the technical roadmap from concept through to implementation.
• Champion modern engineering practices, including automation, CI/CD, IaC, and observability.
• Embed security, governance, and regulatory compliance into all solutions, balancing innovation with risk management.
• Collaborate with product teams and senior stakeholders to deliver business value and influence technical direction.
• Remain hands-on with solution design, code reviews, and complex technical challenges while coaching engineers.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across teams.
