Job Summary

Are you looking for a change to the usual ward based work but don’t want to give up clinical contact with your patients? Interventional Radiology Theatres may be what you are looking for. We are currently looking for a driven senior clinical support worker, to join our team, across Leeds Teaching Hospitals to assist in delivering our day case commitment. Interventional Radiology experience is not essential as long as you are committed to the highest standards of patient care and safety. We want you to develop to your full potential and all new team members are supported by our Nurse Education Practitioner and are allocated a mentor to help work through our competency booklet together. You will also be supported by an experienced multi-disciplinary team of Nurses, Radiologists and Radiographers who will work closely with you during your development. The skills you will gain with our team are easily transferrable to other areas such as Critical Care, A&E, CCU, Theatres, Neurology and any acute clinical environment.

Why you should join our Team

Key achievements

  • One of the largest Interventional Radiology departments in the UK and we are a regional, national and international centre for some of the most innovative treatments available.
  • Finalist in the 2020 Nursing Times Awards within the surgical nursing category, for developing supportive aids to support new and existing team members, we were immensely proud of the recognition this received and look forward to moving forward and nurturing initiatives this fantastic team brings to the table.
  • We provide care of the conscious patients undergoing elective and acute, diagnostic and sometimes complex multi-organ vascular procedures such as embolisation of tumours and haemorrhage, angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, tumour ablations, and acute urological and vascular procedures and stroke thrombectomy.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.

What You Will Bring To The Role

The jobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirect compassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team. The jobholder will undertake a range of delegated clinical patient care duties under direct or indirect supervision by a registered team member. We are a busy cross site department working Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 providing excellent patient care at LGI and SJUH for people undergoing vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures using radiology and ultrasound guidance. We care for people who remain conscious during most cases undergoing angioplasty, stenting, embolisation, thrombolysis, aneurysm repair and many other interventional procedures taking patients from most specialties. We are part of the Major Trauma Centre and also one of the few sites in the country performing cutting edge vascular, hepatic and neurological procedures. The role will mainly involve preparing and assisting in the recovering in-patients and out-patients in the recovery room. You will already be able to cannulate or be willing to undertake training in this, and other, extended roles including removal of arterial sheaths and patient transfers on taking up the post. You will be a key part of the team delivering a successful service as we continue to grow our service.
