PSD Scotland seeks a registered medical practitioner with an established background in health informatics to strengthen national digital health initiatives. The role focuses on CRM, data and technology use to improve health and social care delivery, with potential for portfolio-based informatics work.
The post offers NHS-aligned career progression, with a fixed-term or secondment arrangement and flexible, remote-friendly working patterns across Scotland.
On 1 April 2026, NSS and NES became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.
As part of this transformation, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have joined to form a new organisation: PSD Scotland. This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long‑term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.
Flexible Location: PSD Scotland is a remote‑friendly employer with staff based throughout Scotland. We support office‑based and hybrid working arrangements. We welcome conversations about alternative working patterns—please get in touch during the application process to discuss.
Work Pattern: Fixed Term, Part Time, 3 days per week; 6 sessions (24) hours per week
Fixed-term or Secondment** for 2 years from date of appointment
For NHS applicants, an NHS secondment will be offered in the first instance. For non-NHS applicants, a fixed‑term or secondment would be considered.
Salary: The successful candidate will be remunerated according to their professional background, e.g. Consultant, GP, SAS or other appropriate pay scale.
You must have eligibility and entitlement to work in the UK which is required to be maintained throughout your period of employment.
PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.
We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.
PSD Scotland will be the public sector’s enabler of transformation, driving digital innovation, workforce development and Once for Scotland services to deliver efficient, equitable and future‑ready health and social care.
Our work supports the ten‑year direction set by Scottish Government's Health and Social Care Service Renewal and Population Health frameworks. This will bring care closer to home, strengthens prevention and helps build a sustainable and joined‑up system that is innovative and responsive to local communities.
The role is line managed by the Digital Clinical Lead for PTS under the Medical directorate and will align to the operational imperatives of technology delivery as directed by the Director of PSD Scotland Technology Service (PTS).
We are seeking a registered medical practitioner with a license to practice and substantial clinical experience, with a strong background in health informatics, and a demonstrable track record in supporting the effective use of data, information, and digital technology to improve health and social care delivery. The role will have an emphasis on the clinical risk management (CRM) for the development of national level health and care technologies built by PTS; however, will have the opportunity to expand the service and build wider clinical informatics services. The role may be particularly suitable for clinicians with an established interest in clinical informatics or digital health as part of a portfolio career.
