The new appointee will have duties at the hub and across spoke sites in Wigan, Morecambe Bay, or Blackpool. The network includes twelve Vascular Consultants, and the successful candidate will be part of a team of 9 Middle Grades working across four trusts, participating in a "Vascular Surgeon of the Week" rotation and a separate vascular on-call and weekend rota.
Main duties of the job
The Middle Grade “Vascular Surgeon of the Week” supports consultant-led daily ward rounds, coordination, assessment, and management of emergency referrals. During this week, all elective duties are canceled.

Modern education centers at Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospitals offer excellent facilities, including library, study areas, and PC/internet support. The Trust supports Continuing Medical Education per Royal College of Surgeons guidelines and offers time and support for these activities.
The post holder will receive full support to develop specialist interests aligned with Directorate plans and service development within the Trust.
There are two dedicated vascular operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre with video facilities for teaching and connectivity to the Education Centre.
The contract may be amended by local agreements with trade unions and the Trust Board's rules and resolutions.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The applicant will participate in a planned 1:9 weekday “vascular surgeon of the week” rota (8 am-5 pm) and a separate 1:9 on-call rota, both based in the Intervention Centre. The vascular surgeon of the week is responsible for ward rounds, emergency referrals, admissions, and coordinating emergency interventions.
The post-holder will likely have outpatient duties in spoke trusts and hospitals and will assess in-hospital referrals at these sites. Job plans are arranged so each non-arterial trust has a vascular surgical presence at least three days per week.
