Job summary

A reputable NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join their dedicated team. This position offers the opportunity to work in a full shift system, supporting the running of critical obstetric and gynaecological services, including both routine and emergency workloads. The ideal candidate will have prior experience and full GMC registration and will play a vital role in education and training within a teaching hospital environment.

Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The closing date is 11 July 2025

The post is to work as a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST 3-4 equivalent) within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, currently on a full shift system. The appointee will be responsible to the Consultant(s) to whom they are attached. There is a dedicated directorate training lead to support educational and pastoral needs for locally employed doctors.

The main duties will be to support the running of the Obstetric and Gynaecological services on the Royal Preston Hospital site and at Chorley District Hospital.

Main duties of the job
  1. To work within the delivery suite to provide input to the routine and emergency workload at first on-call level. Adequate experience to work competently at ST3 level is expected.
  2. To work within the antenatal clinics, maternity triage, and maternity, antenatal, and postnatal wards.
  3. To assist in the provision of an emergency gynaecology service at first on-call level.
  4. To work within gynaecology clinics and wards.
  5. To assist in gynaecological surgery.
  6. On-call duties are on a 1:8 full shift system, initially supporting a senior obstetrics and gynaecology trainee (ST3-6) on the 2nd on-call rota, progressing to increased seniority.
  7. To support undergraduate education in the department; time and training will be allocated on the rota for this role.

We support Continuing Medical Education requirements as laid down by the Royal Colleges and provide time and financial support for these activities.
