West London Children’s Healthcare is currently recruiting Senior Clinical Fellows in the field of Paediatric Emergency Medicine starting in March or September 2025 for 6-12 months on a fixed term contract.
This post is suitable for a doctor looking to further develop acute and emergency paediatric skills from a paediatric or emergency medicine background. The post is solely based in the Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) as part of a dedicated middle grade rota. The role works alongside a junior grade rota and is supported by Paediatric EM Consultants and a team of acute paediatric consultants providing on site, overnight cover. At the present time, the middle grade rota includes no night shifts.
The department currently provides training to both Paediatric and Emergency Medicine trainees from the London Deanery. It is also a recognised RCPCH PEM training centre, being one of only five departments in the region providing specialist PEM registrar training. This post has the same access to educational opportunities as the RCPCH PEM GRID post – this includes time to obtain orthopaedic, surgical, burns and anaesthetic exposure in keeping with the RCPCH/RCEM PEM Curriculum.
The unit is supported by a large inpatient paediatric unit, with most paediatric subspecialties represented on site. As the regional paediatric surgery and paediatric burns centre as well as a centre for gastroenterology, plastic surgery, ENT, orthopaedic, neurology and endocrinology there is complex case mix and scope to gain huge experience.
We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.
Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving us an overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.
Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
Please refer to job description and person specification attached.
Even though these posts are not recognised for training by London Deanery, they provide excellent training opportunities. You are expected to keep a training portfolio, to have regular assessments with an allocated educational supervisor and to demonstrate progression in the field of Paediatrics during your tenure.
