Job description

This is a fixed-term 1-year appointment for a candidate interested in pursuing a career in dermatology, commencing at the start of August in line with national rotations. Successful candidates will work alongside deanery registrars at the level of an ST3 grade resident doctor.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for inpatient reviews, outpatient clinics, minor operations, contributing to the Skin MDT, and supporting specialist nursing colleagues when needed. Secretarial and administrative support will be provided.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Register and have completed MRCP.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Objectives

  1. Provide dermatology services in inpatient and outpatient settings with colleagues.
  2. Contribute to on-call cover from 9am-5pm, supporting advice and queries from wards, ambulatory care, emergency departments, and Dermatology Registrar when requested.
Management Responsibilities
  1. Participate actively in monthly clinical governance and academic meetings.
  2. Engage in meetings and other activities within the dermatology service.
  3. Contribute to medical audits and clinical governance meetings held bi-monthly.
  4. Maintain professional development as per Royal College of Physicians standards, including annual appraisal and personal development portfolio.
Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
  • GMC registration with a license to practice, MBBS or equivalent, MRCP full membership, Intercalated BSc or equivalent, and higher degrees (MSc, PhD, MD) where applicable.
Clinical Experience & Skills
  • Previous surgical experience.
Clinical Knowledge
  • Competence at foundation level in managing medical emergencies, inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Sound clinical judgment, proficiency in medical procedures, ability to work independently, prioritize needs, and ensure safety.
  • Evidence of competencies in the specialty, including emergency management skills.
Audit Management & IT
  • Experience with audits and quality improvement projects, good IT skills, and use of hospital databases.
Research, Teaching Skills & Experience
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Personal Qualities
  • Clear and effective communication skills in English, excellent interpersonal skills, and successful team working within an MDT.
