RELX INC in London or Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Scientific Editor to shape One Earth’s climate content, oversee peer review, and engage with authors and reviewers. The role focuses on commissioning and editing front-matter content and developing impactful climate-related sections.

You will collaborate across disciplines, contribute to editorial strategy, and build global networks while representing the journal at events and in digital media.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Editorial experience is preferred.
• Broad interest across sustainability research.
• Strong critical thinking and ability to evaluate diverse areas of science.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in international teams.
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
• Established research networks (preferred for senior candidates).
• Interest in scientific publishing, communication, and digital trends.

Responsibilities

• Identify, recruit, and develop high-impact content across climate change and related areas of sustainability research.
• Evaluate submitted manuscripts and manage the peer review process for rigor and fairness.
• Select and collaborate with expert reviewers.
• Engage with authors, providing guidance and an excellent author experience.
• Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives, and other front-matter content.
• Ideate and plan thematic issues that bring together leading reviews and perspectives.
• Contribute to editorial strategy and positioning within the Cell Press portfolio.
• Build relationships with the global scientific and sustainability community.
• Represent the journal at conferences, workshops, and institutional visits.
• Contribute to digital content, including the journal homepage and social media.
