Job summary

Scantec is seeking a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to work on a wet utilities project in Warrington, Cheshire. This permanent, full-time role is site-based and requires eligibility for UK security clearance.

You will deliver civil designs for potable and foul water networks, review calculations, and liaise with multidisciplinary teams to meet regulatory and governance requirements. Nuclear sector experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Civil Engineer with wet utility design experience.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng is preferred.

• Proven capability in design substantiation, reporting and assurance.
• Experience in multidisciplinary team environments and interface management.

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to work with our client on a project in Warrington.

This is a permanent, full-time, site-based opportunity supporting the delivery of wet utility infrastructure within the nuclear industry, including potable water, foul water, surface water drainage and associated utility networks.

Due to the nature of the project, candidates will need to be eligible to obtain the appropriate UK security clearance.

We are ideally looking for candidates with experience in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated/safety-critical sector, although transferable experience from major infrastructure, energy or other regulated industries will also be considered.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering civil engineering design and assessment for wet utility networks, including potable water, foul water, surface water drainage and associated infrastructure.
• Producing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports and design documentation.
• Supporting design substantiation and technical justifications to meet project, regulatory and governance requirements.
• Collaborating with civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical, environmental and wider multidisciplinary teams.
• Assessing pipeline networks, drainage systems, pumping stations, attenuation systems, hydraulic performance and construction-stage requirements.
• Participating in design reviews, technical assurance activities and resolving engineering queries.
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant codes, standards, quality requirements and CDM 2015 obligations.

About You

We are looking for a degree-qualified Civil Engineer, ideally working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or with equivalent professional experience.

You should have:

• Proven experience in the design and delivery of wet utility infrastructure, including water supply, drainage, sewage and associated networks.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic design, drainage strategies, flood risk management and pumping systems.
• Experience with utility coordination and integration within major infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of design substantiation, technical reporting and engineering assurance processes.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and managing technical interfaces.
• Experience using hydraulic modelling, drainage design and digital engineering tools.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Knowledge or experience of American codes and standards would be advantageous but is not essential.

Nuclear & Security Clearance Requirements

This role supports a project within the nuclear industry, so previous experience within nuclear or another highly regulated/safety-critical environment is highly desirable.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the required UK security clearance for the project and will be required to undergo the relevant security vetting process.

Previous experience of nuclear new-build projects would be particularly advantageous, although we welcome applications from engineers looking to move into the nuclear sector with transferable experience from other regulated or safety-critical industries.
