Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Civil Structural Engineer (Power)

Join Murphy Applied Engineering in our Energy team, based out of our Stone Cross - Warrington office. The Senior Civil Structural Engineer will be responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient civil engineering designs for substation and linear HV transmission projects. This role involves managing consultants and developing internal design capabilities.

Following the ‘One Murphy’ approach, we deliver comprehensive project solutions. Murphy has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as Grid, SSE, and Ørsted, within the transmission and distribution networks of the Energy sector.

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Civil Structural Engineer

1. Undertaking technical delivery of civil designs, including producing and checking calculations and drawings against project scope, client standards, British and European standards, and industry best practices.
2. Analyzing, designing, and reviewing structural building and HV plant support structures, including REVIT models and output drawings.
3. Conducting foundation analysis and design.
4. Inspecting and surveying existing civil infrastructure for potential re-use.
5. Modeling drainage systems (desirable but not essential).
6. Performing site visits and inspections.
7. Undertaking Design Risk Assessments and contributing to project hazard reviews.
8. Interfacing with clients, subcontractors, and third-party functions to support project delivery, with support from the Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager.
9. Managing, producing, and responding to Technical Queries or RFIs for live projects, following the Design Management procedure.
10. Developing and mentoring junior engineers, graduates, and apprentices.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• HND, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Civil design experience, within consultancy or internal contractor design.
• Exposure to site construction activities through previous roles, placements, or visits.
• Experience in work-winning, including risk identification and mitigation.
