Job summary

Advance Training & Recruitment Services is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer in Brighton with UK wastewater infrastructure experience to lead detailed design work and mentor junior staff. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years’ experience in UK-based wastewater pipeline design and sewer infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of sewerage rising mains, trunk sewers and drainage hydraulics.
• Familiar with design standards including Sewerage Sector Guidance, Water UK and BS EN standards.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and hydraulic modelling software such as InfoWorks ICM, MicroDrainage or Epanet.

Senior Civil Engineer – Wastewater Infrastructure (Pathway to Design Manager)
Salary: £55,000 to £75,000 (dependent on experience)

Location: Falmer, Brighton – Hybrid, with a South of M25 focus and occasional team days in Slough

Type: Permanent, Hybrid

About the Role

Our client is looking for multiple Senior Civil Engineers with UK-based experience in wastewater infrastructure to join their expanding detailed design team.

The role includes responsibility for checking and mentoring engineers and technicians, with progression towards Design Manager positions.

For the first month, you will be required to attend our client’s Slough office for induction and to embed with the team. Following this, the role will move to the stated hybrid working arrangement.

About the Client

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the detailed design and delivery of wastewater networks, including sewerage rising mains and trunk sewers.
• Provide technical leadership on wastewater pipeline rehabilitation and renewals.
• Ensure designs comply with Water Industry Standards, Sewerage Sector Guidance and UK regulatory frameworks.
• Oversee the design, planning and optioneering of wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Mentor and review the work of engineers and technicians.
• Support resourcing, programming and provide input to fee and change control.
• Develop designs for pumping stations, rising mains and gravity sewer systems.
• Conduct condition assessments and feasibility studies for wastewater asset rehabilitation.
• Ensure integration with existing networks and treatment plants.
• Supervise the creation of technical drawings.
• Liaise with water utility companies, contractors and regulatory bodies.
• Lead meetings with clients, local authorities and internal teams.
• Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections as required.
• Provide technical input on contractor methodologies, risk management and construction planning.

What Our Client is Looking For

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years’ experience in UK-based wastewater pipeline design and sewer infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of sewerage rising mains, trunk sewers and drainage hydraulics.
• Experience with design standards including Sewerage Sector Guidance, Water UK and BS EN standards.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and hydraulic modelling software such as InfoWorks ICM, MicroDrainage or Epanet.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend site visits.
• Understanding of hydraulic modelling, pipeline design tools and industry software is desirable.
• Knowledge of surge analysis, transient flow and pressure management in pipeline systems is desirable.
