Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer for their Bristol office to lead highways and drainage design on development projects across the UK. You will own civil engineering elements from appraisal through to detailed design, while mentoring junior engineers and supporting client relationships.

The role emphasises technical leadership, driving design quality, coordinating with planners and authorities, and contributing to fee proposals.

Qualifications

• Strong UK consultancy experience in development infrastructure.
• Proven background in highways and drainage design.
• Confident leading projects and managing technical delivery.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and drainage software.
• Client-focused and commercially aware.

Responsibilities

• Lead highways and drainage design for development projects.
• Manage pre-purchase feasibility and discharge of planning conditions.
• Oversee Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies and SuDS design.
• Deliver S38, S278 and S104 technical approvals.
• Produce and review drawings, calculations and 3D ground models.
• Coordinate with architects, planners, authorities and statutory bodies.
• Mentor engineers and support team development.
• Contribute to fee proposals and scope management.
