Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer for a water sector alliance based in Peterborough. You will provide technical leadership across complex water infrastructure projects, guiding design teams and ensuring value, safety and compliance.

You will mentor engineers, drive innovation in digital engineering and offsite construction, collaborate with BIM specialists, and promote sustainable, low-carbon design within Anglian Water's alliance.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Significant UK water sector civil design experience.
• Chartered (ICE or IStructE) or working towards chartership.
• Experience with BIM and 3D design environments.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design activities on water and wastewater projects.
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, specifications, and 3D models.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and Anglian Water specifications.
• Manage design risk and champion health & safety throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support construction teams with technical expertise and buildability assessments.
• Develop innovative and repeatable engineering solutions, including modular and offsite construction approaches.
• Work closely with BIM specialists and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting professional growth and chartership progression.
• Drive continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practice.
• Promote sustainability, carbon reduction, and environmentally responsible design solutions.

Our leading water sector contractor client is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join their alliance team based out of Peterborough.

The @one Alliance is a pioneering collaboration between Anglian Water and seven industry-leading partners, delivering over half of Anglian Water's capital investment programme across the East of England.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a technical leadership role within the Water Recycling Non-Infrastructure team, delivering innovative, sustainable solutions for critical water and wastewater assets.

The Role

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across a portfolio of complex water infrastructure projects, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective designs that meet industry standards, customer requirements, and sustainability objectives.

You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and help drive innovation in digital engineering, modern methods of construction, and low-carbon design.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design activities on water and wastewater treatment projects.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
• Significant civil design experience within the UK water sector.
• Strong understanding of Design & Build project environments.
• Experience in reinforced concrete design and water-retaining structures.
• Knowledge of drainage systems, buried pipelines, ground engineering, and site infrastructure.
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and design-related health & safety requirements.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities.
• Ideally Chartered (ICE or IStructE) or working towards chartership.
• Experience with BIM and 3D design environments.
• Knowledge of steel and masonry design.
• Interest in digital engineering, offsite construction, and sustainable design practices.
