Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to support major water and wastewater schemes across Scotland. The role covers feasibility through construction, requiring collaboration with design, commercial and field teams to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions in line with current standards.

You will mentor engineers, drive standard designs, and review project outputs while traveling to sites across the region. UK driving licence and CEng are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering and chartership with a recognised Institution.
  • Proven track record delivering high-quality outputs to design, quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Methodical problem-solving approach and willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

  • Providing design support and guidance for civil schemes across design, construction and delivery.
  • Collaborating with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop safe, practical solutions.
  • Managing interfaces between civil design and other disciplines; producing documentation.
  • Acting as technical checker and reviewing project documentation across teams.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes and standards.

Project Overview

As part of our appointment to Scottish Water’s new Enterprise, we will deliver projects at sites across Scotland. Works will include major upgrades to treatment assets, new and enhanced networks, and resilience schemes that will benefit communities across the country.

Senior Civil Engineer – Role
  • Providing design support and guidance for schemes and ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond
  • Positively engaging with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims
  • Managing the interfaces and integration of the civil design with that of other disciplines and production of documentation
  • Acting as technical checker on project documents, and undertaking technical reviews for projects across teams
  • Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes including development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools
  • Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability of solutions and integration within the existing systems
  • Supporting the development of the civil engineering team, coaching and mentoring engineers to develop their skill set and identifying the correct resource for the projects
What You’ll Need
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Chartership (CEng) with a relevant Engineering Institution
  • Experience of successfully delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region
