Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead civil design for major water projects from feasibility to construction across Scotland. A Civil Engineering degree with CEng and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in hydraulic and concrete structure design are essential, along with proven project management and stakeholder communication skills.

You will collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams to deliver practical, safe solutions, influence delivery

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Chartership (CEng) with a relevant Engineering Institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering including hydraulic and concrete structure design.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience of delivering high quality outputs in line with design, quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to sites across the operational region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the design, planning, and execution of civil engineering on projects.
  • Providing design support and guidance for schemes and ensuring all designs meet current legislation and standards
  • Work closely with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond
  • Positively engage with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims
  • Managing the interfaces and integration of the civil design with that of other disciplines and production of documentation
  • Acting as technical checker on project documents, and undertaking technical reviews for projects across teams
  • Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes including development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools
  • Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability of solutions and integration within the existing systems
  • Supporting the development of the civil engineering team, coaching and mentoring engineers to develop their skill set and identifying the correct resource for the projects

As a Principal Civil Engineer you'll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities - enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the civil functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all civil aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.

The role of a Principal Civil Engineer includes:

What you’ll need:

  • Proficiency in civil engineering software and tools.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable within the water and wastewater sector
  • Experience of temporary works design
