Job summary

Caritas Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Children’s Team Manager to lead a Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) in Wigan. The role involves steering a team of social workers and practitioners, ensuring timely, proportionate safeguarding responses and high-quality casework.

You will oversee supervision, performance feedback and complex decision-making, collaborating with education, health, police and other services to protect children and support families.

Qualifications

• Recognised social work qualification and current professional registration.
• Substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care and safeguarding.
• Experience supervising or managing social work staff, ideally within a MASH/front-door or referral and assessment setting.
• Sound understanding of child protection practice, statutory frameworks, information governance and multi-agency working.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of social workers and practitioners, providing regular supervision and performance feedback.
• Review referrals, oversee screening and information-sharing, and apply thresholds for intervention.
• Allocate work and ensure assessments and decisions are completed within required timescales.
• Work with partner agencies (education, health, police and wider children’s services) to gather information and coordinate responses.
• Contribute to service improvement, monitor performance, manage risk and ensure accurate recording and case management.
