Job summary

Durham County Council is recruiting for a permanent Lead Child Protection Practitioner based in the East of the County, Chester-le-Street. This non-case-holding role focuses on guiding and empowering practitioners to deliver outstanding child-centred protection work and to champion safeguarding across services.

You will chair conferences, strategy meetings and co-ordinate core safeguarding processes, ensuring timely progress, safety and positive outcomes for children, young people and families.

Qualifications

• Experience as a social worker with substantial post-qualifying experience in child protection.
• Ability to chair strategy meetings and child protection conferences.
• Strong facilitation and supervision skills to support practitioners.
• Experience working within safeguarding frameworks and policy guidance.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice and guidance to social workers, managers and partners.
• Support learning around best practice and build practitioner confidence.
• Facilitate group supervision and contribute to quality assurance.
• Be part of a Multi-Agency Child Protection Team.
• Attend strategy meetings and coordinate core safeguarding processes to drive outcomes.
