Job summary

Guy Carpenter in London is seeking a Senior Catastrophe Modelling Analyst to join the LAC catastrophe modelling team, based in a hybrid London office with at least three days in the office.

You will manage catastrophe modelling projects from start to finish, working with brokers and GC Analytics to assess client risk across the Caribbean region and beyond, developing expertise in regional perils and contributing to a range of modelling initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of catastrophe modelling experience required.
• Fluent English; Spanish a plus but not required.
• Ability to lead initiatives and research projects to completion.
• Strong data manipulation and interpretation capabilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for brokers and clients.

Responsibilities

• Organize client data, load into catastrophe models, run the models and share output with senior colleagues to help determine client’s degree of risk.
• Performs basic calculations with client data to assess a range of risk exposures and predict outcomes for clients in support of reinsurance transaction process.
• Develops knowledge in region-based or peril-based areas of catastrophe risk management services through research or experience to advance professionally.
• Reviews complex analyses completed by project team members involving catastrophe risk models and evaluates the resulting data sets to calculate the client’s risk exposure.
• Establish client relationships, resolves questions and challenges that may arise.
• Prepares summaries, presentations and reports for client projects to summarize potential risks and recommendations.

We are looking for a Senior Catastrophe Modelling Analyst to join the team at Guy Carpenter. This role will be based in our London office. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

In this role you will be an integral member of Guy Carpenter’s Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) catastrophe modelling team, positioned and working primarily with the team in London servicing clients across LAC with a primary focus on the Caribbean region.

You will work closely with brokers and other GC Analytics members to gather and assess clients’ catastrophe exposure data to best understand and proactively address the potential impact of natural and man-made catastrophes.

In addition you will be responsible for managing catastrophe modelling projects from beginning to end and will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of clients and contribute to a wide range of innovative catastrophe modelling initiatives.

We will count on you to:

• Organize client data, checks data for reasonability, loads data into catastrophe models, runs the models and shares output with senior colleagues to help determine client’s degree of risk.

• Develops knowledge in certain region-based or peril-based areas of catastrophe risk management services through research or experience in order to advance professionally and gain recognition as an expert in the industry.
• Reviews complex analyses completed by project team members involving catastrophe risk models and evaluates the resulting data sets in order to calculate the client’s risk exposure.
• Establish client relationships, resolves questions and challenges that may arise.
• Prepares summaries, presentations and reports for client projects in order to summarize potential risks and loss results and to make recommendations to the client about how they can improve their portfolio.

What you need to have:

• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Fluent English (Spanish language skills an asset but not a requirement)
• Proactive mind-set: desire and ability to lead internal initiatives and research projects to completion.
• Robust data management skills: ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data.
• Superior communication and presentation skills: an ability to translate complex technical analysis and concepts into easily understandable terms for brokers and clients.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail with financial aptitude.
• A collaborative, team-oriented individual.
• Strong interpersonal skills for establishing and maintain good client, reinsurer, and internal relationships.
• Good computer skills using Microsoft SQL, Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

What makes you stand out:

• Previous experience in a technical related role at a reinsurance broker, market, or catastrophe model software vendor.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in natural sciences or related disciplines.
• Prior experience in relevant insurance / reinsurance field.
• Scientific background in meteorology and/or earthquake.
• An understanding of the reinsurance industry and product lines.
• Technical expertise working with Verisk and RMS catastrophe models.
