Job summary

Serencroft Care Homes in Romford is seeking a dedicated Senior Carer to lead overnight personal care and supervise night staff at Gable Court on a flexible bank basis. You will administer medications safely, review care plans, monitor residents, and support induction and training of junior night staff while upholding health and safety standards and person-centred care.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising others in a care setting is desirable.
• NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care is advantageous.
• Right to work in the UK required.
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
• Willingness to work across night shifts, including weekends, on a Bank basis.
• Confidence leading care staff overnight.
• Experience in a care home or related regulated environment is desirable.
• Good communication and a can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor night staff, providing clinical and practical guidance.

About Us

Serencroft Care Homes is an independent care provider operating five residential and nursing homes across England, including Gable Court in Romford. We are CQC-regulated and B Corp certified, and we work in partnership with NHS commissioners and local universities to provide high-quality, person-centred care. We're looking for an experienced, compassionate Senior Carer to help lead the delivery of high-quality care overnight for the residents and staff who call Gable Court home, covering night shifts flexibly as needed.

Role Overview

As our Senior Carer, you'll take a lead role in delivering and coordinating personal care for residents at Gable Court overnight, on a flexible, as-required basis, supervising and supporting care staff on shift. You'll help ensure the home meets health and safety standards — playing an important behind-the-scenes role in the comfort and wellbeing of our residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the delivery of personal care to residents overnight, in line with their individual care plans
• Supervise, support and mentor care staff during night shifts, providing clinical and practical guidance
• Administer medication safely and accurately, in line with home policy and training
• Carry out and review care plans and risk assessments, updating them as residents' needs change
• Monitor residents' health and wellbeing overnight, escalating any concerns to senior management or healthcare professionals promptly
• Support the induction and training of new and junior night care staff
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records in line with home procedures
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
• Promote residents' dignity, independence and choice in all aspects of their care
• Work flexibly across night shifts as required, covering absence and additional demand within the home

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience as a Senior Carer or Health Care Assistant, with experience supervising others, is desirable
• NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or working towards) is an advantage
• Right to work in the UK
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
• Willingness to work flexibly across night shifts, including weekends, on a Bank basis
• Confidence leading and supervising a care team overnight
• Experience within a care home, healthcare or similarly regulated environment is desirable.
• Good communication skills and a flexible, can-do attitude.
