Job summary

Lavender Lodge Care Home in Derby seeks an experienced Senior Carer to lead and develop the care team, delivering high-quality personal care and maintaining compassionate, person-centred support for residents.

You will supervise shifts, administer medications, update care plans, mentor staff, and collaborate with families and health professionals to ensure safety and dignity in daily routines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a care setting, ideally nursing or residential.
• NVQ / QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Adults) — or actively working towards it.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and hold a team accountable during a shift.
• Medication administration competency (or willingness to complete training).
• Excellent communication and documentation skills; experience with digital care recording.
• Experience with or willingness to learn the PCS care system.
• A sociable, engaged, and positive personality; you enjoy people.
• Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and shift patterns.
• Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the DBS Update Service.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Leading and supervising the care team during your shift, acting as first point of contact and escalating concerns to the Nurse in Charge.
• Setting the tone for the shift — modelling energy, warmth, and professionalism.
• Delivering and overseeing high-quality personal care: washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility support.
• Administering and recording medications in accordance with company policy and CQC standards.
• Completing, reviewing, and updating care plans and risk assessments using the PCS care system.
• Spot-checking your team's documentation and coaching improvement.
• Supporting residents with nutrition and mealtimes — ensuring these are social, dignified occasions.
• Mentoring junior care staff: conducting supervisions, supporting inductions, and identifying development needs.
• Building positive professional relationships with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
• Championing person-centred care — knowing residents as individuals, not tasks on a rota.
• Supporting residents receiving end-of-life care with clinical competence and compassion.
• Contributing to audits, quality improvement, and CQC compliance activities.
