Job summary

MWH Treatment is seeking a Senior CAD Technician (Mechanical) to strengthen our engineering team in the UK, with hybrid working available. You will lead the production, coordination and QA of mechanical designs for major water and wastewater projects across the UK.

Working with Civil, Electrical, ICA and Process engineers, you will champion BIM and digital delivery, ensuring drawings meet CDM standards and project specifications.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in multidisciplinary design environments.
• Strong mechanical CAD background in water, utilities or infrastructure.
• Advanced 2D drafting using industry-standard CAD software.
• Strong 3D modelling and BIM standards understanding.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design drawings and 3D models quality assurance.
• Manage CAD workloads meeting programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Act as Digital Delivery Champion, supporting BIM adoption across the business.
• Coordinate drawing production undertaken by offshore and remote resources.
• Ensure all designs comply with CDM regulations, project specs and procedures.
• Coordinate mechanical outputs with Civil, Electrical, ICA and Process disciplines.
• Support the identification and resolution of technical queries and design coordination issues.
• Produce and review high-quality mechanical layouts, piping designs and detailed drawings.
• Ensure QA, drawing standards, and document control requirements.

Help Deliver Critical Water Infrastructure Projects

MWH Treatment is looking to strengthen our Engineering team with the appointment of a Senior CAD Technician (Mechanical) based in a suitable location within the UK, region, with hybrid working available.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical CAD professional to join a leading engineering business delivering major water and wastewater projects across the UK. As a senior member of the design team, you will play a pivotal role in the production, coordination and quality assurance of mechanical design deliverables, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment alongside Civil, Electrical, ICA and Process Engineers, you will help transform complex engineering concepts into high-quality designs that are practical, buildable and ready for successful delivery.

The Role

Reporting to the Regional Discipline Lead, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing mechanical CAD and BIM activities across a portfolio of projects.

You will support the delivery of innovative engineering solutions, champion digital engineering best practices and ensure all drawing outputs are completed safely, accurately and in line with company and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the production, coordination and quality assurance of mechanical design drawings and 3D models.
• Manage CAD workloads and ensure design outputs are delivered to programme, budget and quality requirements.

• Ensure compliance with drawing standards, QA procedures and document control requirements.
• Work closely with construction teams and supply chain partners to improve buildability and deliver practical engineering solutions.
• Support BIM delivery and model coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
• Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and support junior CAD technicians and designers where required.

• You'll be an experienced Mechanical CAD Technician with strong technical skills and a passion for delivering quality engineering solutions within a multidisciplinary environment.
• EssentialSignificant experience working within a multidisciplinary engineering design environment.
• Strong Mechanical CAD background within water, utilities, industrial processing or infrastructure projects.
• Advanced 2D drafting skills with extensive experience using industry-standard CAD software.
• Strong 3D modelling capability and understanding of model-based design principles.
• Proven experience using Autodesk Revit and associated 3D design applications.
• Experience using Bentley ProjectWise or similar document management platforms.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering systems, including pumping systems, pipework, valves, treatment equipment and associated infrastructure.
• Broad experience in the use and application of engineering software and digital delivery tools.
• Good understanding of BIM standards, 3D modelling processes and quality assurance requirements.
• Strong appreciation of how mechanical systems are installed, operated and maintained.
• Excellent coordination, communication and organisational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering right-first-time design outputs.
• Self-motivated, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
• DesirableExperience working within the UK water and wastewater industry.
• Understanding of treatment works, pumping stations and related mechanical infrastructure.
• Knowledge of BIM Level 2 standards and digital engineering workflows.
• Experience coordinating offshore or remote design resources.
• Previous mentoring, supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Understanding of construction methodologies, off-site manufacture and buildability principles.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or capital delivery programmes.
