Job summary

Owen Daniels in Portsmouth is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver the control software for autonomous marine vehicles. You will own the architecture of closed loop control and vehicle systems management, and serve as technical authority for software on mobile platforms.

The role requires a degree in CS/Mechatronics/Robotics, expert C++14+ development, and experience with control systems. Flexible working and strong benefits accompany this permanent position.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, or similar.
• Professional experience in design and development of software for control systems.
• Advanced software development experience in modern C++ (14 or newer).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software architecture for closed loop control and vehicle systems management.
• Implement propulsion, electrical systems, control allocation and autopilot features.
• Write and maintain software documentation, including design records.
• Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
• Collaborate with wider teams to deliver software and documentation on time.
• Review peers' designs to ensure reliability and maintainability.
• Test and validate software via unit tests, simulation, bench testing and sea trials.
• Act as technical authority for software on mobile platforms from scoping to delivery.
