Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a commercially minded Senior Buyer to join our Environment procurement team in Rickmansworth. You will lead procurement for projects, coordinate designers, clients and suppliers, and ensure cost-effective, compliant solutions aligned with programme requirements.

The role emphasizes supplier pre-qualification, bid evaluations, purchase orders, performance management and mentoring of junior colleagues, with a focus on delivering value while maintaining quality and on-time

Qualifications

• Significant experience within purchasing, procurement or supply chain management at a senior level.
• Strong understanding of commercial law and contract conditions.
• Excellent commercial awareness and contractual experience.
• Degree qualified in procurement, engineering, technical or related discipline is desirable.
• Full Membership of CIPS preferred; proficient in MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop, agree and issue procurement plans for projects and programmes of work.
• Carry out supplier and subcontractor pre-qualification assessments.
• Prepare scopes of work for products, materials and subcontract services.
• Prepare and issue ITT documentation following requisitions.
• Undertake bid evaluations to identify suitable suppliers and subcontractors.
• Create and issue purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
• Manage and expedite delivery to meet programme requirements.
• Monitor and report procurement performance against budgets.
• Support pre-construction teams with structured procurement during bids.
• Maintain supplier approval and performance management processes.
• Resolve supplier performance issues and commercial disputes.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to drive value.
• Share procurement best practice across the business.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to the procurement team.
